State is losing an average of Rs 10 crore every day to cybercriminals, a significant jump from Rs 4 crore just three months before, according to an official with the cyber wing of State police. This increase is reflected in the surge in calls to the cybercrime helpline (1930), which now handles more than 400 calls per day, up from 275 calls two months ago.

One emerging trend among cybercrimes is fraud related to share trading, CB Ryshyanth, Superintendent of Police (Wireless) told Salar News. Scammers lure unsuspecting victims with deceptive links promising high returns. However, when victims attempt to withdraw their earnings, they realise they've been cheated.

A common trick used by fraudsters is to manipulate victims into believing that their Aadhar card has been misused to open bank accounts and that those accounts are involved in money laundering. Another modus operandi is to make the victims believe that they are involved in criminal acts and that the parcels they have sent through FedEx contain contraband. “Victims are subjected to psychological manipulation and coercion and in some cases, the victims are held physically or digitally hostage,” a police official said.
